Rozzie takes the Crown for the Second Consecutive Year at Boneo Park

Boneo Park certainly set the standard this year by accommodating some of Australia’s finest at the 2013 Credit Suisse Boneo Park CDI*** over the weekend.

Judges and sponsors from around the world, riders from around the country and organisers from around the state all merged together for the first official dressage qualifying event for the 2014 World Equestrian Games in Normandy.

Thursday afternoon’s 40 degree heat didn’t stop the enthusiasm at the first official duty of the event, the trot up, where all Small and Big Tour horses were accepted. Next stop was the welcome cocktail party and draw, where everyone was gearing up for a weekend full of competition and fun.

Day 1 commenced at 8.30am with the Novice Championship in the outdoor, CDN classes in the indoor and the Small and Big Tour classes in the indoor too, showcasing some of Australia’s best talent in horses and riders.

Brett Parbery and his stunning mare, Furstin Friendship won the Rowville Novice Championship, with a total score of 58 points. Second was local rider, Jane Crantock on her imported mare Di Maggica with 57 points and third went to Stephanie Spencer on Redskin R with a total of 56 points- a very close competition!

Pryde’s EasiFeed Prix St Georges winning score of 68.342% was from Brett Parbery and DP Weltmieser, with Sara Mcdonald and her beautiful mare, Adlanta Rose coming in at second on a score of 68% and third went to Revelwood Warmblood Stud owner, Amanda Shoobridge and Ferrero Rocher on 67.026%.

The CSG Prix St Georges CDN saw Brett Parbery winning again on Aber Hallo 29 on a score of 69.780%, Maree Tomkinson and Debstar LP on 68.158% and NSW rider Heath Ryan on Figo Deluxe on 64.824%.

Rozzie Ryan and GV Bullwinkle finished the Peter Horobine Grand Prix CDI on a total score of 69.289% followed by Queensland rider Sheridyn Ashwood on her imported stallion, Prestige VDL on 68.915% and third was David Shoobridge on OO Seven who finished on 68.064%

Day 2 was a solid day of competition with the Advanced Championship, Young Horse first rounds and continuation of the Small and Big Tour classes.

Brett Parbery won the Priefert Advanced Championship on Aber Hallo 29, with Maree Tomkinson on Debstar LP, Kerry Mack and Mayfield Be Brave, Heath Ryan and Figo Deluxe and Cornelia O’Mahony on Jive Talkin BP all placing.

Heath Ryan won the Flexible Fit Intermediate II on Utopian Cardinal on a score of 64.105%. Second was Charlotte Pedersen on Come To Me with 63.342% and third was Victorian rider Emmalee Weston on Belcam Jazzmine finishing on 52.868%.

Sara McDonald on Adlanta Rose was successful again on Day 2, winning the Prydes EasiFeed Intermediate I on 67.895%, second place Brett Parbery on DP Weltmieser on 67.237% and Queensland rider Tor Van Den Berge on third with Donna Bonita on 64.631%.

Rozzie Ryan and GV Bullwinkle with the Peter Horobin Grand Prix Special on a score of 68.250%, Sheridyn Ashwood on Prestige VDL placing second on 67.563% and Heath Ryan and Regardez Moi placing second on 65.875%.

Sunday was Freestyle Day where we saw spectators arrive as early as 7.30am to catch a glimpse of riders and to reserve their seat for the most anticipated event in the timetable, ‘Secret Men’s Business’ with Brett Parbery, Tor Van Den Berge and David Shoobridge. The trio proved to be a hit with the crowd, educating and motivating any rider watching.

John Walker and Associates 4 Year Old Young Horse Championship was awarded to John Thompson on Tulara Fidette (14.94 points)- John also placed 3rd on Jaybee Astaire (14.70 points) with Hayley Gilbert on Sugarloaf Rubinell coming second on 14.82 points.

Brett Parbery was up on the presentation stand again, this time winning the Equestrian Performance Surfaces 5 Year Old Horse Championship on Furstin Friendship with a total of 16.24 points, followed by Kerry Mack on Mayfield Limelight on 15.48 points and Denise Rogen on Just One Wish on 14.74.

Caroline Wagner’s young horse, WS Donnerman won the Equissage 6 Year Old Horse Championships on 14.42 points, with Jenny Bray and her local bred horse CJP Diamond Dazzler coming in at second on 13.96 points. Third saw another local rider, Jacinta Abernethy on Heathmont Sima finishing on 13.88 points.

Next up was the Pryde’s EasiFeed Intermediate I Freestyle, where again, Brett was up on stage collecting his winning ribbon and rug for DP Weltmieser who finished on a winning score of 73.45%, second Adlanta Rose and Sara McDonald on 70.425% and third was Heath Ryan on Johnny Depp, with 64.950%.

The final class of the competition was the Peter Horobin Grand Prix Freestyle, where again Rozzie and GV Bullwinkle win on a a score of 72.125%, followed by Heath Ryan on Regardez Moi with 69.675% and placing third was local rider, Dr. Kerry Mack on her stallion, Mayfield Pzazz on 69.525%.

The finale of the event was the victory lap of Rozzie Ryan and GV Bullwinkle taking out the Peter Horobin Big Tour Championship for the second year running which was a special moment for all watching at Boneo Park.

Many young horses made their CDI debut, reaffirming to some how competitive the stakes are becoming in Australia.

As this event has drawn to a close, the Boneo Park team are looking at 2014 to make it better again.

Judges are already ‘fighting’ to be selected to return for the 2014 event, summarising their weekend as ‘one of the best CDI’s they have ever been to’.
